We serve the nation’s
renewable energy needs
Pioneers in U.S. renewable energy development
We started our clean energy business in 1997 as a wholesaler of renewable generation. Now more than 800 people strong, we are the most integrated and sophisticated renewable energy company in the United States.
With facilities sited across North America, we now own and operate more than 4,800 megawatts of utility-scale renewable energy production.
A diverse generation mix
Our facilities are strategically placed throughout the country, giving us the unparalleled ability to serve customers with both local and multi-state service areas.
Our portfolio consists of enough energy to meet the demands of more than one million typical American homes.
Experts in our field
We have experts working in every U.S. market on issues such as project development, transmission, permitting and regulatory affairs, including in-house operation and maintenance services for our fleet nationwide. It’s our business to maintain a keen focus on the regional issues that matter the most to you.
An international presence
Our corporate parent, The Iberdrola Group, is headquartered in Spain and operates more than 13,000 renewable megawatts in 40 countries — the largest renewable energy asset base in the world. As our customer, you will benefit from a creditworthy counterparty with a strong balance sheet and commitment to renewable energy investment in the United States.
Energy policy advocacy
Although our resources extend around the globe, we maintain a sharp focus on issues affecting the energy market here at home. We play a leading role within the American Wind Energy Association and we are members of both the Solar Energy Industries Association and the Solar Electric Power Association. Our government affairs team has a seat at the table for energy policy discussions at local, state and national levels. This involvement ensures we continuously adapt our product offerings, so our customers are able to balance the requirements of renewable portfolio standards and system reliability while managing costs for ratepayers.
We are one of the few renewable developers operating a 24-hour scheduling and trading floor. This capability allows us to maximize the output from our facilities and provide customized shaping and firming solutions for our customers located in physical markets. This asset-focused approach helps our customers reduce operational and commodity risk at a highly competitive price.
National Control Center
Come visit us in Portland, Oregon, for a tour of our state-of-the-art National Control Center, which achieved operations and certification in 2010. The National Control Center is fully compliant with North American Electric Reliability Corporation standards and gives our operations team real-time, command-and-control access to every Iberdrola Renewables facility in the United States, maximizing productivity and enhancing safety.
Exceptional customer service
We stand behind our commitments.
Our customers know they can count on us: when we sign a power purchase agreement, we build the project. In fact, we have delivered on every single power purchase agreement we’ve signed. Our track record gives you certainty in resource planning, a certainty that is not guaranteed when partnering with others.
We custom build creative products.
Each customer is unique, from load and generation profile, to weather impacts and regulatory requirements. We offer creative energy products customized to meet the needs of each specific customer and market structure. Customization eases the integration of our resources into your portfolio so you can get the most benefit from your renewable energy investment and increase value for ratepayers.
We inspire customer loyalty.
We have many repeat customers who come back to us because they know we commit to deliver the results that we promise from the very beginning of each relationship.
We have a strong balance sheet.
Each and every project we undertake is financed on balance sheet, which means you will never face uncertainty inherent in third-party project financing. Our strong balance sheet and credit rating is an indication of our ability to thrive even in tough markets and means you can rely on us to be there for the long term.
We work around the clock.
With our 24-hour trading floor and National Control Center, we’re always here for you. Your ratepayers require energy and support day and night, and we manage our facilities to be the most reliable, efficient and safe in the market. We promise an unparalleled standard of service that you know you can count on.
Best-in-class business practice
Maintaining strong community relations is a key value within our development practice, and we regularly sponsor programs and events such as Little League, rodeos, and high school athletics. As part of our commitment to creating U.S. jobs, we fund continuing education and training for renewable energy technicians.
Wildlife and environmental protection
We believe that responsible renewable energy development begins with environmental safeguards. Our protocols have become industry best practices for monitoring, site design and wildlife safety. In fact, the American Wind Energy Association established the Andrew Linehan Award for Environmental Excellence in honor of our late colleague, Andy Linehan. This award recognizes individuals in the wind industry who work to establish and advance, as Andy did, the highest environmental standards for the industry.
In 2008, we became the first U.S. wind power company to voluntarily adopt an Avian and Bat Protection Policy. The policy, drafted in consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, often sets standards well beyond what is mandated by law. We are also the first wind developer to join the Avian Power Line Interaction Committee, which proposes best practices for bird-safe power lines.
We’ve been honored in the industry for our outstanding business practice. Among the many awards we’ve proudly received are:
- Market-Maker of the Year (American Wind Energy Association)
- Green Power Leadership Awards: Renewable Energy Technology Supplier of the Year (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, and Center For Resource Solutions)
- SHARP status for safety (Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Association’s Voluntary Protection Program)
- Power Plant of the Year (Power Magazine)
- Sustainable Oregon Award (Oregon Economic and Community Development Commission)
