Our experience as one of the nation’s leading wind power project developers has uniquely positioned the company to develop and deliver a variety of renewable solutions. Our commitment to renewable energy features a growing biomass business.
The Iberdrola Renewables, LLC’s development portfolio includes a number of combined heat and power projects with participants in the forest products industry. The company is seeking to expand this business through biomass plant ownership, or alternatively, through purchase of renewable energy from projects owned by forest products partners.
Unlike most renewable energy companies that specialize only in project development, Iberdrola Renewables, LLC integrates policy, permitting, engineering, financing, construction and operations expertise to provide exceptional solutions from project inception through the sale of renewable energy. The company’s portfolio of power plants, gas storage facilities, transmission rights and 24-hour scheduling and trading capabilities allow for the delivery of products and services that help customers manage energy risks and uncertainty.
Existing US projects of this type include:
- Simpson Tacoma Kraft Company (Tacoma, Washington) is a pulp and paper mill. The Simpson project is a combined heat and power biomass facility providing up to 55 MW of renewable power generation as well as process steam to the mill. Iberdrola Renewables, LLC — under a long-term power sales agreement — is purchasing all of the renewable energy, managing delivery to its utility customers in California via a Tacoma Power interconnection and Bonneville Power transmission.
