Big Horn Wind Power Projects

Location: Klickitat County near Bickleton, Wash.

NERC region: WECC

Power Market: WECC

The Big Horn Wind Power Project is a multi-phase wind farm located near the community of Bickleton in Klickitat County, Washington. In addition, some 455 acres south of the site has been aside for wildlife and habitat conservation.

Bickleton is known as the "Bluebird Capital of the World" due to the thousands of these birds which nest in the region. As part of the plant’s community dedication, Iberdrola Renewables, LLC, sponsored a project where students in the local high school shop class built about 250 bluebird nesting boxes. The boxes joined a larger network of some 2,000 bluebird homes in existence since the 1960s.
